Good Fortune Headwrap

This post is part of the One Thimble Issue 9 Blog Tour.  So Welcome – I hope you enjoy my blog!  I decided to sew up the Good Fortune Headwrap from One Thimble Issue 9 for this blog tour.  I also contributed the Cheeky Monkey  pattern to this issue of One Thimble – and you can read about that in my blog post HERE.

The Good Fortune Headwrap is designed by Alana Pritchard from Rosie Petal.  You can find her on her facebook page RosiePetalKids.

I used a spandex/dance fabric to make my headwrap which I purchased from spotlight.  You really don’t need very much fabric at all to make this headwrap.  I only needed a rectangle that was just over 50cm long by 17cm wide.   This was actually the first time I had ever sewn something in this type of fabric.  I mainly use cotton or fleece fabrics when I make my toys, bags or quilts – so using this fabric was very new to me!  I read through the instructions a couple of times but it really all made sense when I made the headwrap itself.  I also took Alana’s advice on using a stretch stitch on my sewing machine and I also used a stretch sewing machine needle too.

I first measured my daughter’s head and then used the chart provided in the instructions to get the exact size I need to make the headwrap.  The finished headwrap fitted my daughter perfectly – so this table was great!  I also made mine in the regular width – but you can also make it in wide and narrow width too.  Alana’s instructions and step by step photos were really good and I don’t think I would have got the folding part right without those wonderful photos!  Now I’ve made one – I could make more very easily!  There were two ways to join the edges - raw edge or concealed.  I chose concealed to give it a neater finish.  I was really happy with the way it turned out.

Thanks Alana – a great design and easy to follow instructions too!  This took me a very short time to make from start to finish too – so a nice quick project to make too.  You can get this great pattern (plus 13 other wonderful patterns, tutorials, tips  & ideas) when you buy One Thimble issue 9.

I love the fabric you’ve used. I really need to make a few more of these for myself (and poppet haha). I might need to try some sparkly fabric next ; )

Super cute! I have some similar fabric my daughter picked out of the remnant bin. I didn’t even think to make one of these! I’m going to have to try it too.
