Feature: Awesome Designers Free Tutorial
My Awesome Designer for this feature is Jodie Carleton from Ric Rac.
Jodie designs soft toys and her patterns can be found in downloadable PDF format through her online stores, or can also be found in paper format in quilt shops. She is an Australian designer who lives in Victoria. I have been following Jodie’s blog – Ric Rac - for several years and have also met Jodie at a couple of stitching days. She is a fun, fabulous person with a great sense of humour and her designs are just as fun and fabulous too. I have made several of her designs over the years (I made Little Red – shown here on the left, and Reuben the donkey) and I find all her patterns easy to follow and well written. Jodie has very generously offered my readers a discount on her Online Store of 20% off! Just enter the code CRAFTYFUN to get the discount. This offer will run until the 19th of April - so quick - check out her Online Store and get 20% off her patterns!! Thankyou Jodie!!!
Here are a few more pictures of some of Jodies designs I have made: (Kinder Girl, and Archie the frog). She also makes a range of easy beginners patterns too and teaches some fun kids and adults classes making her toys.
My daughter made up one of Jodie’s designs – the Sally dog a couple of years ago. A great pattern for beginners and easy enough for her to follow and make too.
Jodie also has some great free patterns on her site too. I downloaded her ‘Tiny Birds’ free pattern the other day – and my son made it up last weekend. I cut out the fabric for him and had it all ready (which made it a lot easier) and then he used the sewing machine to sew it up. He also managed to hand sew the stuffing gaps closed too! (Yes – I’m very proud of him!). I finished by sewing on the beak and doing the French knot for the eyes. A nice and easy beginners pattern – Thankyou Jodie!
